Sketchers Anonymous
So a few friends and I have started up a sketch group. We're hoping to head out every week and... uh... sketch. Last week we just went to the mall (simple) but ended up sketching for almost two hours. Good times! I'm hoping this is just what we need to really help our chances of getting into the program.

Shady stuff...
This week we learned all about textures and shaders in my Intro to Maya class. Lots of fun! Much less frustrating than modeling.
So the first two are pre-made models, and the last one (chess piece) is of my own design.

Don't Use That Tone With Me!
My first ever drawing on toned paper (with white charcoal). I think it turned out okay...

A Day No Sketchbooks Would Die...
It's always fun to see other bloggers posting a eulogy to sketchbooks they have "killed"... but my weapon of choice-- a three-ring binder that I fill with punched printer paper-- happens to be immortal. Sure, it lacks personality, but it's cheap and durable (I used that line in a personal ad once...).
Anyway, I recently came to the end of a chunk of pages that had been sitting in there since about Christmastime, so I decided to clear it out and post some of the less vomit-inducing material.
We'll start with some character design: my wife is writing a children's book about a little girl who likes ballet. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Lena Ballerina!
I decided to use her for an assignment for my Intro to Maya class. The lo-res model didn't turn out so good (freakiest thing I've ever seen, actually). But I liked the orthographic views I whipped up here:
Nothing says Christmas like some reindeer sketches. Yes, these were from actual reindeer. No, I'm not always honest.
The rest are pretty random. I need to clean up my linework a lot, but I think I'm getting the hang of this sketchbook thang.

Crunch Time
Life has been absolutely insane lately. New semester, new classes, new baby coming (it's a girl!). Most stressful of all, I'll be applying for the animation program at BYU in, what, two months? I feel less and less ready every day, but it'll be fun.
I've got an Intermediate Life Drawing class (where we learn to draw "intermediate life") taught by Jamin LeFave (cool name, huh?). He's amazing! The class has been pretty intense so far, but I love it.
Anyway, here's the first completed drawing of mine from that class. Let me know what you think!

20th Post Extravaganza!!!
Well, not really. I'm just a-postin' my final for Intro to Animation. It's still really rough (to say nothing of the obvious faceless golfer metaphor), but I'm happy with it.

Mr. Peanut
So I am loving my animation class... it has totally consumed my life away from home (and a lot of it there, too). I haven't gone to my gen ed health class in like a month. That's how bad (or good) this obsession has become.
And to prove it, here is my second flour sack drop animation for the class (the first one was up to nearly 400 frames--and looking decent-- before I scrapped it for something simpler). This one got mostly good reviews, except I guess he's too rubbery. Oh, and Kelly said that he looks more like a peanut than a sack of flour (which is true. My bad!). Hopefully I can go back and fix it up, but I kinda like what I've got. Let me know what you think (oh, and sorry if it's too dark)!
