My First Ever Figure Drawing

Isn't it great?

The following are my second and third figure drawings, respectively. I've been taking a beginning Figure Drawing class at the Y this summer, and it's been really great. I know the shading and proportions need a little work (and I need a bigger scanner I guess), but I'll get better. Let me know what you think (especially if you're an artist yourself -- constructive criticism please!).

Thanks for the kind words. I can definitely look into the Captain Marvel thing. Great figure drawings!

Hey Aaron,

Yeah the polynesian drawing did disappear. I wasn't completely sold on it.

For those gesture drawings I used one of those Staedler/ Mars Lumograph brush pens.

I think you're drawings are nice. They feel pretty solid. I think you could work on keeping a looseness of gesture throughout the figure. Are you taking Ryan Woodward's gesture class?

Shazam! Thanks, Adam.

Jason, thanks for the thoughts. I'm not currently taking Ryan's class (is it only for those already in the program?). I'll have another figure class in the fall, the section that's supposed to be geared toward animation majors. Hopefully that will help.

Hey Aaron!
Thanks for the comment on my blog.
Say, I recognize those figure poses!

These are really great!! But, I can tell that you (maybe?) struggled with the hands/feet as they seem somewhat less defined. (some of the most difficult things to draw, other than a self-portrait!) One thing that helped me, was to take a week and focus all my sketching on hands/feet. :o) Hope it helps! :o)

Thanks so much for the help, Lora. Yeah, the hands and feet have been tough for me thus far...(plus I was a little pressed for time). I like your suggestion. I'll try that!
